Don't know what to start next? Check our wiki first!

Not sure how to ask for a recommendation? Fill this out, or simply use it as a guideline, and other users will find it much easier to recommend you an anime!

I'm looking for: A certain genre? Something specific like characters traveling to another world?

Shows I've already seen that are similar: You can include a link to a list on another site if you have one, e.g. MyAnimeList or AniList.

So uh, Re; Zero (Spoilers for S1 up to EP15)

So uh, Re; Zero (Spoilers for S1 up to EP15)

You know, I saw pictures of the MC. Bland looking guy in orange tracksuit. Read some memes about Reinhard and his blessings. Okay, so the OP character isn't the main one. So why does this anime keep coming up in "Top 10/Best" lists? I asked myself.

I had just caught up with JJK, been watching S3 on release. People were praising the animation and fight scenes, easy pick up. Violet Evergarden was being mentioned a lot recently so I went through that too. No-one really brings up REZero when it comes to fight scenes or animation.

But this…I don't think I've been on this much of a rollercoaster since some key fights in JJBA (eg Vanilla Ice fight), HxH Chimera arc and FMA:B (Most of it). When anime has real stakes, the MC or the spotlight character(s) are going through absolute struggle, and mental taxation is through the roof. The male VA's (sub) absolutely full-send the performance – none of this "real men don't cry" BS.

What's incredible is that you'd think with Subaru's power there would be no stakes. It can all be reversed, right? Like Groundhog Day. No, no no no. Each time things go in the shitter, you think he's going to fix it round 2 but it goes EVEN MORE IN THE SHITTER. Like, how BAD can things get? This show isn't about fixing bad stuff it's about HOW MUCH TRAUMA CAN WE GIVE THE MC AND AUDIENCE. When he was chained in the cave, I honestly wondered how he was going to die or felt like Rem was actually lost. That that couldn't be reversed. Whoever wrote the LN is a master at convincing you "Yeah the next "save point" will be different and something bad will stick".

What made me finally start the show? Someone wrote a comment on Reddit about why Subaru is a compelling character despite having little in the way of strength compared to Reinhard (the character who isn't the MC but has the meme potential). They didn't spoil Return from Death, just said about how much suffering Subaru goes through to save people and no-one knows about it. I really attach myself to suffering characters but who have the strength to keep fighting or make a tough decision that hurts them but saves others.

It's no coincidence that The Butterfly Effect (Director's Cut) is one of my favourite movies.

Anyway thank you for reading. Also I feel like the Re:Zero community really respects spoilers, all I know is who the big monster in the credits was but that's not that shocking. I like to read threads of episodes after watching with a lot of anime and someone mentioned it in an EP15 ending discussion.

Thanks for reading!
