I'm looking for: A certain genre? Something specific like characters traveling to another world?

Shows I've already seen that are similar: You can include a link to a list on another site if you have one, e.g. MyAnimeList or AniList.

dark but girly anime? ( Preferably from the 2000s )

dark but girly anime? ( Preferably from the 2000s )

the only anime I have watched recently within memory was Elfen Lied which was absolutely fire so I want to watch more animes like it

I loved how cute it was at times, I loved the fact it had a found family aspect, and I really loved the way it balanced wholesomeness with extreme violence and other darker topics.

bonus points for the fact that its from the 2000s, I just like anime from around that time and earlier because its more aesthetically pleasing than modern anime which just looks too clean a lot of the time

I don’t feel like I have much else to add, the point is that I am looking for cutesy anime that cover or fully revolve around dark topics that are preferably a little older.

anything helps, thanks!

It’s been said a million times, but Legend of the Galactic Heroes is truly special and will never be replicated

It’s been said a million times, but Legend of the Galactic Heroes is truly special and will never be replicated

110 episodes across 9 years. A perfectly told story with a great beginning, middle and end, never jumping the shark or losing its effectiveness, that manages to simultaneously feel epic (Literal definition here, even if the word has been abused to death) but like it's not dragging on or bloated. A perfect conflict with two sides that will always have its ardent supporters. Incredible monologues and moments that will endure. Great voice acting. Great soundtrack.

It's been nearly 30 years since this series ended and I don't think we will ever have anything like it ever again within our lifetimes. There will be great series of around 40 episodes total at most, and series that start great but degrade with time. But this? Is there really any hope that this will ever be replicated? It was lighting in a bottle.
