As someone who has read the manga the difference in translations is very considerable for example in episode 6 Azuma says “Thats some heavy baggage” to Taira but in anime it is “Thats a deeply stubborn habit”
moreover some scenes don’t even make sense like Azuma’s suspicion joke by how their translated. There are many other scenes that feel flat due to the poor subs

Know i’m being very nitpicky💔 but it annoys me a little people can’t enjoy the show to its full potential. Season 1 had more accurate subs than this Season 2 tho

Im seeing this trend more and more across various mediums (anime, movies, TV, etc) where the villain will have some sad backstory to make them relatable and justify them. Not to say it should never be done it can be used well (see Naruto) but its becoming much more common. I think its ok for a Villain to just be straight up evil. I started thinking about it after I saw Azulas (Avatar TLA) voice actor responding to fans that said Azula should get a redemption arc by saying: "Can we have a villain please? All the villains are dissapearing they have the same backstory"
